Who watches thrillers?

We need to consider the majority of the audience who watch thriller movies, as this group will be our target audience. Our target audience is for the slightly younger generation, around 16 years + to 28 years even older.

UK Cinema going By Genre in 2009.
Here are the figures for the suspense films released in the UK in 2009.

Here is some information about genre and gender.

1. 31 suspense films were created in 2009 within the 501 films which were created that year.

2. Action, comedy and animation account for 52% of box office in 2009. These genres generate so much interest so therefore make the most profit as they are the genres which are most popular within young adults from 16-24year olds, this is the age group which is most likely to go to the cinema in order to socialise.

3. However Thrillers account for the lower proportion of UK box office ratings as there was only 4% in 2009 because the marketing and advertisement industries tend to focus on promoting more big-budget films such as action and animation films which will appeal to a wider market making more profit.

4. According to the 'genre by gender' diagram, the thriller genre is relatively equal in appeal to both male and female viewers, but the males are more attracted to the rough masculine essence of horror films, while females prefer the calmer suspense thrillers. Whats more, both genres are quite firmly in the middle ground between male and female audiences, thriller movies are not targeted at any certain gender of audience.

5.  Thrillers are generally targeted at an older audience teens and even older, i know this because all thriller films have an age certificate of 15 or 18. This shows that thriller audiences are most commonly teenagers or young adults who are looking for an exciting and thrilling cinema experience.
